At an altitude, the air is so rarefied that in the event of an emergency decompression, it will be possible to remain conscious only for 30-45 seconds. And it is so cold at the altitude that the air temperature can reach 60 degrees below zero Celsius.

Oxygen masks - temporary help. The design of the masks is such that they can work no more than 12 minutes after they are unpacked. During this time, pilots need to descend to an altitude where they can breathe normally. And masks will not protect against gases or smoke.

Life rafts. The operating principle of life rafts seems so simple that few people read the safety instructions while on board. The figure may depict people holding onto the raft with one hand. They swim side by side rather than sitting on top of the life craft. This is important to note as the raft will capsize if someone tries to climb onto it.

Minimum fuel. This term usually refers to the amount of fuel that is enough for a flight between two desired points. But international legislation states that the liner must have a volume of fuel sufficient for the actual flight, as well as some additional volume for unforeseen circumstances. This is 3-5% of the bulk of the fuel. "Alternative fuel" - the volume provided for in the event of a leak. And even in addition to these additions, there is still fuel that will last for half an hour of flight. So pilots always have options to change their landing site in an emergency.
